WORD: Now with more bowties! Emily Pullen will be joining WORD in Brooklyn as Manager at the beginning of July. She has been an assistant manager at Skylight Books in Los Angeles for almost six years. She loved her time at Skylight but is equally stoked to be landing in New York. She also served on the American Booksellers Association’s Emerging Leaders Council, the ABA’s Booksellers Advisory Committee, and created the Corpus Libris blog. To keep her hand in the publishing world, she moonlights for the independent publisher Two Dollar Radio.
“Any bookstore that gets to have Emily Pullen on its staff is fortunate indeed,” says General Manager/Co-Owner of Skylight Books Kerry Slattery. “Her passion about books, bookselling and the book world in general is infectious — and she infuses professionalism and fun in all that she does. We will miss her greatly in Los Angeles, but are so pleased that in New York she’ll be working with such a smart, forward-thinking bookstore as WORD.”

I haven’t said much about all the job change stuff because I did not have internet in the new apartment until this weekend, but: I am BEYOND excited, like, tears-in-my-eyes-whenever-I-think-about-it excited, that Emily will be taking my job. She is one of the first booksellers I met when I started full-time in the indie bookseller world, and I have always admired her and thought she is one of the smartest booksellers in the business. I’ll stop here before I get much more sappy, but CONGRATULATIONS, EMILY! So happy that we’ll be co-workers for a few weeks.
